We think learning is best when it is fun!
Think of Steel River Playhouse as your student’s creative and performing arts playground and even as a go to place for planning to be a professional performer! Steel River offers both beginner and advanced training programs.
Our academic year is structured into three 12-week sessions for Private Students, and three 10-week sessions for Group Classes. Private lessons begin the week of September 6, while group classes begin the week of October 10. Production workshop start dates are arranged based on a conflict sheet sign up chart, with the first workshop beginning in September.
For our younger actors, some morning sessions are just 8 weeks.
Each of our academic semesters ends in a recital for private lesson and group dance, and some group voice and acting classes. All semester-long classes end in either an opportunity perform in a recital or perform in-class during the regular classroom time.
Our educational programs include:
Summer Camp (features three two-week camps in musical and dramatic theater)
- Audition preparation
- Managing an arts career
- Voice (for students undergoing or post-vocal change)
- Singing (for pre-vocal change students)
- Beginner Violin
Workshops are offered with scripted materials in Musical Theater, Classical Theater and Dramatic Theater. Shows are chosen based on the number of interested students. Production workshops have varied start times and rehearsals are scheduled around staff and actor availability. Students taking production workshop classes are asked to sell advertisements for the production as well as to sell tickets to assure a good audience size for student performances.
When taking four different types of classes in the advanced program classes (Grades 4 and up), students can work toward earning a Steel River Playhouse Acting Program Certificate.
