This smart and compassionate play follows the story of Catherine, a troubled young woman whose life has been spent caring for her father, a famous mathematician. When he dies, she is forced to deal with her destructive emotions and the arrival of her estranged sister. Now, after the discovery of a mysterious notebook and a developing romance, she is forced to solve the most difficult problem yet. How much of her father’s madness, or genius, will she inherit?
Please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue for the audition. Monologue should reflect the themes of the play if possible. Auditions are by appointment only, please contact email@example.com for timeslot.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN – Ages are approximate.
Catherine — mid-to late 20s. Smart but frazzled daughter of Robert, the Math genius.
Robert — 50’s Mathematical genius, Recently deceased. Plagued by mental illness. He appears in Catherine’s imagination and in flashbacks.
Claire — Late 20s, early 30s – Practical Older sister of Catherine. Left family to live successful life in NYC.
Hal — Late 20s — Robert’s protege. Ambitious young professor.
